MOREdern Warfare...IN SPACE!

games, Announcements, Video Game TrailersMattComment

I can't believe no other video game company has opted to use a cover version of a very popular song for their cinematic trailers. It's brilliant! Even when the cover song is questionable at best!!

But hey, it's Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare!!

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare released 11/4/2016 and comes with a remastered version if CoD: Modern Warfare. Are you hyped? Do you contain hype? Hype it out.

When they said "Give us $50 and we'll give you Star Wars Battlefront DLC", many scoffed.

"What is this madness? $50 American Dollars for DLC you won't even DETAIL FOR US!? Nay!" is what probably everybody said. But now this complaint is only still partially viable because EA detailed the plans for their first Battlefront DLC pack.

Let's break it down, Sullust-style:

Ah-the-yairee u-hareh mu-ah-hareh.

OK, now let's break it down regular style:

New Gamemode
New Maps
New Heroes

Titled Outer Rim, you're gonna get to spend some more time on beautiful twin-sunned Tatooine hanging around an exciting, little out-of-the-way place you may have heard about: Jabba's Palace! Tour the Exhalted One's throne room! See where that filthy Jedi Skywalker made poor ol' Malakili cry his eyes out. Then, take a few moments to explore the garage where Jabba's favorite transport is housed, the Sail Barge Garage!

That's right, you'll be spending time in Jabba's Throne Room and his Sail Barge's Garage! But there's so much more to see on this trip!

Next, we'll head over to the lovely climate of Sullust! Tour their newest Smelting Facility and get a little more in-depth with the people and culture!

Speaking of Sullstan culture and people, I did mention more heroes would be making their way to Star Wars Battlefront and Outer Rim is bringing us two new playable characters! The infamous Greedo will be trying to prove that his aim has improved and the other is our favorite resident Sullust, Nien Nunb who is out to show the rest of the Rebels just how to ride coattails to victory!

Finally, the new gamemode will be titled Extraction and here's the description right from the EA-horse's mouth!

Rebel forces have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim in order to extract a valuable shipment of resources. Now they must bring the shipment to their transport ship before time runs out. The Empire has arrived to stop them from reaching the extraction point.

There ya have it. Here's your tl;dr recap!

New Maps:
Jabba's Palace - The Throne Room & Sail Barge Garage (that's just fun to say. Say it out loud. It's fun!)
Sullust - Smelting Facility

New Heroes:
Greedo
Nien Nunb

New Gamemode:
Extraction

So, whattya think?

Fallout 4 DLC? Who Knew!?!

games, AnnouncementsMattComment

We've waited. Patiently. What would Bethesda bring to us? Would they be substantial DLC packs or just simple add-ons? Would they bring back old characters or give us the ability to kill current ones (Hey there Captain Minuteman...I'm looking at you)?

Well, now we have answers and those answers are found right below this sentence!

First up is Automatron!

Automatron
Price: $9.99 USD | £7.99 GBP | $16.95 AUD
Release: March 2016

Robot invasion! As robutts begin flodding the Commonwealth, it's up to you shut them down...permanently! In addition to the robots floating around the Commonwealth, you're able to harvest their glorious mechanical insides in order to mod your own custom robot companions!

Choose from hundreds of mods; mixing limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons like the all-new lightning chain gun. Even customize their paint schemes and choose their voices!

I cannot wait for the Bender mod pack.

Next up is Wasteland Workshop

Wasteland Workshop
Price: $4.99 USD | £3.99 GBP | $7.95 AUD
Release: April 2016

This sounds like a combination of Pokemon and Thunderdome. Which, when you think about it, Pokemon kind of IS a T-Dome sitch.

With the Wasteland Workshop, design and set cages to capture live creatures – from raiders to Deathclaws! Tame them or have them face off in battle, even against your fellow settlers. The Wasteland Workshop also includes a suite of new design options for your settlements like nixi tube lighting, letter kits, taxidermy and more!

I never knew I wanted something like this in a Fallout game until now. I wonder if I can send my Benderbot in to wreck some face...

And FINALLY we have the most substantial of the DLC announcements. It's so big that they couldn't even place it in Boston. It's time to venture out to beautiful Far Harbor, Maine.

Far Harbor
Price: $24.99 USD | £19.99 GBP | $39.95 AUD
Release: May 2016

Probably the most exciting of the 3 overall because it's a new Nick Valentine case! This is the biggest landmass DLC Bethesda has ever produced and I'm very excited to finally see mutated lobsters. There better be some goddamn lobsters.

A new case from Valentine’s Detective Agency leads you on a search for a young woman and a secret colony of synths. Travel off the coast of Maine to the mysterious island of Far Harbor, where higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world. Navigate through the growing conflict between the synths, the Children of Atom, and the local townspeople. Will you work towards bringing peace to Far Harbor, and at what cost? Far Harbor features the largest landmass for an add-on that we’ve ever created, filled with new faction quests, settlements, lethal creatures and dungeons. Become more powerful with new, higher-level armor and weapons. The choices are all yours.

This is only the first set of DLC for 2016. Bethesda has plans to make more DLC and given that, they are changing up the pricing structure on their Season Pass. Come March 1st, the Season Pass will run you a not-insignificant $49.99 BUT if you purchase anytime BEFORE March 1st, you will get the full benefits of the Season Pass at it's current price of $29.99. The Fallout 4 Season Pass will supposedly provide up to at least $60 of content.

And finally, these DLC packs will actually be playable if you sign up for their closed beta. If you're chosen, you'll receive the full DLC pack WITH achievements and not have to purchase the pack. So, maybe roll those dice?

Break Me Off a Piece of That Quantum Break

gamesMattComment

Is that really the best title I could come up with? Survey says:

YES!

Now that we've figured this situation, let's talk about Quantum Break! We're unabashed fans of what Remedy does, and I'm personally a huge Sam Lake fan. I think he's just delightful.

Today, we got this stellar live-action trailer starring Iceman again! Unfortunately, not the Kilmer Iceman but an Iceman nonetheless. I am really looking forward to playing this game as it looks like a ton of Remedy-style fun.

Everything about this trailer just hits right for me. I love the concept of playing with time. Games like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time or Braid have been great examples of how to properly use time mechanics and as I'll expound upon below, I think Remedy is perfectly positioned to follow suit as I believe they know how to successfully meld mechanics into the ever-important story.

When Lake and Remedy announced Quantum Break, there was no question we were gonna be supporters. Remedy has consistently put out games that fulfilled the story-driven need we have in tandem with some great gameplay. Alan Wake is, of course, one of the absolute favorites and much of that was due to just how deep the narrative felt.

And If you never got the chance to play Alan Wake or it's expansions The Writer and The Signal, you're in for a treat.

Just purchasing Quantum Break nets you Alan Wake plus those expansions. Pre-ordering from certain places will also get you the not-exactly-a-sequel-but-in-the-same-universe Alan Wake: American Nightmare stand-alone game. We've talked about the pitfalls of pre-ordering in the past and how it's certainly a problem BUT personally, when a company that has a consistent track record of quality like Remedy AND one of the bonuses is a full copy of one of the best games of the last generation, I kinda feel like you can't go wrong here. I can't anyhow.

Oh, and if that weren't enough, Remedy has also confirmed that there will be a Windows 10 version of Quantum Break which is a FREE add-on if you pre-order the XBOX version through the XBOX store or those same various retailers as mentioned above.

Quantum Break from Remedy Games releases on XBOX One and Windows 10 April 5, 2016.
